Chuck Michaelson Studio Policy 2012-2013
I’d like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to teach you or your child how to play a musical instrument. I believe music is an important part of life, and learning to play an instrument can be a rewarding experience. I will do everything I can to help you succeed in accomplishing your musical goals. Below is my studio policy.
INTERVIEW AND TUITION
A complimentary in-studio interview is available for all prospective students interested in taking private lessons.
Tuition for private lessons can be charged on a monthly or quarterly basis. If paying by the month, payment is due at the first lesson of each month. For quarterly payments, each student will be billed for 12 lessons out of 13 weeks each quarter. Tuition is not charged for the skipped week, which is usually used for major holidays or vacations. If paying quarterly, payment will be made in full before the start of each quarter.
Quarterly Tuition periods run from January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December. Quarterly tuition will be pro-rated for new students.
LESSON OPTIONS
Lessons are 45 or 60 minutes weekly. 30-minute lessons are available for young beginners.
Lessons are taught in my studio, located in NE Portland. Lessons at the student's home is also an option.

LESSON TIMES/MAKEUPS
Please be on time for your lesson. The time slot that you have booked for lessons is yours for as long as you hold that time. Make-up lessons will be offered to students who give at least 1 week’s notice for planned events (such as school plays and trips), and 24 hours notice for illness and unexpected emergencies. Make-up lessons will take place on an agreed upon time during the week. Students who don’t show up for scheduled lessons with no notice will NOT be offered make-ups for these times, regardless of the reason.
STUDY MATERIALS/PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS
A three-ring binder (binders with pockets preferred) is needed along with lined notebook paper or a small notebook for writing down lesson assignments. I will make supplemental sheet music available as well as recordings of pieces being worked on. I will also indicate any instructional books and materials needed.
Students should complete their assignments each week. Daily practice is vital to musical progress. The recommended amount of practice time should generally be at least 4-5 days a week.
Important note to parents:
It is extremely important that you be involved in your child’s lessons to make sure that they are practicing their assignments each week. If you don’t already play an instrument, learning along with your kids can make the whole experience fun for everyone and I can guarantee you will see great progress. Paying for music lessons is an investment and I want you to get the most return for your money. Participate in your child’s lessons and the results will be immensely rewarding for all of you.
CONTACT INFO
I let calls go to voicemail during lessons. Please leave a message and I will get back to you. The best time to reach me is before 2 pm or after 7 pm. You can also reach me by email. I check my email several times a day.
All parents and students who find these policies acceptable should print and sign one copy and
return it to me before the first lesson. Please keep a separate copy for your own reference.
